The new GZ mosque imam, Shaykh Abdallah Adhami, was born in Washington, DC and received a degree in architecture from a New York university; however, he could hardly be thought of as Americanized. Adhami, who claims to be a lineal descendent of the Prophet Mohammed, was from the age of eight until adulthood trained in sharia law and the Koran in Syria, Egypt, and Morocco.
