Con Ed has given the Ground Zero mosque an ultimatum: Pay the $1.7 million you owe in back rent, or we’ll terminate your lease and take back our property.

Con Ed and mosque developer Park51 have an unusual, uneasy alliance, sharing ownership of a site slated to be one of the most controversial projects in city history.

The utility owns a former substation on the western half of the property, at 51 Park Place, and the mosque developers own a five-story building on the eastern half. The buildings were connected years ago and used to house a Burlington Coat Factory store

Park51, which leases the substation from Con Ed, wants the two buildings so it can knock both down and build a $100 million, 15-story community center.

But the plan hit a major obstacle in August when Con Ed raised the rent from $2,750 a month, a rate set in 1972, to $47,437 a month, retroactive to July 31, 2008, The Post has learned.

GROUND ZERO MOSQUE DOESN’T HAVE A PAYER

When the mosque failed to fork over the $1.7 million, the utility fired off a letter demanding the money by Oct. 4 and threatening to evict.

Park51 principals responded with a lawsuit to stop the increase, calling Con Ed’s rent demands “outrageous.”

“Whether it is bowing to political pressure or seeking to retain the valuable premises for itself, Con Ed appears intent on proceeding with its wrongful termination,” argued Sharif El-Gamal, the lead Park51 developer.

Gamal said Con Ed’s move also wipes out his ability to eventually buy the substation building, where the Park51 developers have converted the first floor into a prayer space. They turned the first floor of the adjoining building into a cultural center and recently debuted their first event, a photography exhibit.

The modest space is in sharp contrast to the expansive plans unveiled last year that generated worldwide controversy for their proximity to Ground Zero.

Gamal’s group bought the building at 45-47 Park Place in 2009 for $4.8 million and, at the same time, paid $700,000 for the lease at the substation.

The deal was considered a bargain as the entire property had been on the market for $18 million only a few years earlier.

The lease with Con Ed included an option to buy, which Gamal said in 2010 that he wanted to pursue. If he doesn’t own the Con Ed property, he would have to get any demolition approved by the utility.

After conflicting appraisals of the property by Gamal and Con Ed, it seems both sides came to an agreement this summer.

Court papers show that the appraised price for the Con Ed property is $10.7 million. But Gamal contends Con Ed’s math was faulty when it calculated the rent, saying it owes only $881,519 in back rent and should have to pay $25,875 a month going forward.

Gamal got a court order to temporarily prevent Con Ed from ending his lease.

A hearing is set for Nov. 17.

El-Gamal has simply moved into the
old Burlington Coat Factory building which has not been occupied since
September 11, 2001 when it was damaged by one of the planes that struck a tower of the World Trade Center.
He already had permission to tear down the building (which was basically
condemned) build a fifteen story edifice in its place.

An official opening was held in the
old building, but the only thing immediately visible to the public was an
exhibit by artist Danny Goldfield, who has been photographing children from
around the world who now live in New York City.
(It’s a small world after all, and can’t we just be friends?)  A smiling el-Gamal hosted the event,
advertised as (of course) a fund raising event to remodel the building into a
community center.

The building is not referred to as
a mosque, but it does have a “prayer space” behind the exhibit hall, and Muslim
men were seen arriving for evening prayers during the opening event.

It’s been the subject of a documentary, “Losing our Sons,” that recently was released, and a trailer reveals the controversial subject:

Carlos Bledsoe went to college in Nashville and was introduced to the Islamic Center there. Soon he converted to Islam as Abdulhakim Mohamed, and shortly after traveled to Yemen to train.

He returned to America in an apparent rage, and now is suspected of the shooting death of Pvt. William “Andy” Long, who had completed his military training and was en route to an overseas deployment. Long was shot and killed outside a Little Rock, Ark., Recruiting Center, and Carlos Bledsoe later told the AP it wasn’t murder, because he was just doing what a Muslim should do.

Andy Long’s father, Darius, now is fighting to have his son’s death reclassified as a terror attack and have his son awarded a Purple Heart.

The authors of “Fear, Inc.” are counting on its impressive length (138 pages), cascades of footnotes, a few three-color graphics, and professionally glossy cover to convince readers that it is thoroughly sourced, unbiased and undeniable proof of their thesis. Stephen Walt at Foreign Policy, to name one, seems to have been convinced, calling it “a remarkable piece of investigative work” and then parroting its ludicrous accusation that, instead of the threat of radical Islam, “what we are really facing is a well-funded right-wing collaboration to scare the American people with a bogeyman of their own creation.” A bogeyman of their own creation? The rally at Ground Zero sponsored by Pamela Geller’s Stop the Islamization of America was a great success. The crowd filled two city blocks, many of whom brought flags and banners. Speakers included family members of those who died in the 911 jihad attack against our nation. Leaders from groups fighting the advance of sharia law in their own nations spoke as well.

Pamela Geller’s request I opened the rally with a prayer from my unique prospective of the events of the day of the attack:

I was on I-395 approaching the 14^th Street Bridge near the Potomac River when American Airlines 77 struck the Pentagon. The impact shook the windows on my Jeep. Ironically, I was on my way to a press conference at the Rayburn House Office Building to promote the passage of the Sudan Peace Act, a bill opposed by the Bush White House, which was intended to help stop the slaughter of Christians in the Southern Sudan by the extremist Muslim government. With that day seared upon my mind, I would like to offer a prayer for the families of the victims of the Jihad attack on 9/11, and the thousands of innocent people who die every year in the name of Islamic supremacism.

Father, we pray, bring peace for the families of those lost during the jihad attack of 9/11, and comfort those who still suffer today. Bring healing to our land and wisdom to our leaders. Guide us Lord in righteousness to victory over Islamist evil in the world today, we ask in the name of our Savior. Amen.

And now, may the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, be with all those assembled here today.

More information on this very successful rally to keep the spotlight on the reality of 911. While Washington and New York City Hall wants 911 to symbolize “volunteerism” it must always be remembered for what it was, the beginning of a great Fatah against the West.

Family members who lost loved ones in the 9/11 terror attacks say they’re not zealots who scorn the Constitution because they oppose the so-called Ground Zero mosque.

Geraldine Davie said she can feel her daughter’s presence any time she visits the World Trade Center site.

To Davie, the downtown location, including the former Burlington Coat Factory where a mosque and cultural center is proposed, is a gravesite.

“We know this is a country of laws, and that the mosque has a legal right to build there. But what we also are is a country of respect, and we are asking those who want to build, to build elsewhere — out of respect,” said Davie, whose 23-year-old daughter, Amy O’Doherty, was killed as she worked her first job after college at Cantor Fitzgerald.

Davie and other families came to the U.S. Capitol yesterday for a screening of “Sacrificed Survivors: The Untold Story of the Ground Zero Mega-Mosque.”

The documentary, co-produced by the Christian Action Network, will be shown in four locations in New York City through next Tuesday.

“They are building a sharia-compliant mosque on the graves of [families'] loved ones,” said Martin Mawyer, network president.

Supporters have said the project, Park51, would be an Islamic center that would increase understanding.

“They have a legal right to build there. What we are talking about is the moral right,” said Alice Hoagland, whose son, Mark Bingham, led an effort to take back United Flight 93 after it was taken over by the hijackers.

“We are asking that they show us the respect and build someplace else,” Hoagland said.

Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) hosted the film’s screening, arguing that turning a blind eye to a mosque’s real intent was a case of “multiculturalism on steroids.”

“If 10 years or 9 years after Pearl Harbor, the county of Japan had come to the United States of America and said, ‘We want to erect a memorial to Japanese naval seamanship at Pearl Harbor,’ what would we have said?”

ATLANTA (AP) — The U.S. Justice Department reached a settlement Friday with the Georgia city of Lilburn over claims that it discriminated against a Muslim congregation’s request to build a new worship center.

Federal attorneys announced the agreement after filing a complaint in federal court in Atlanta that claimed the Atlanta suburb violated federal law when it blocked the congregation from expanding its place of worship.

“The city of Lilburn twice failed to approve rezoning permits to allow building a mosque, and the complaint alleges that the rejection was because the applicants are Muslims,” said U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates. “We are pleased that the city is settling the lawsuit and that the rezoning issue is being resolved.”

Lilburn officials did not return calls seeking comment late Friday. The city said in the settlement it would not impose different building or zoning requirements on the mosque or other religious groups. City officials also agreed to attend training classes on the federal anti-discrimination law and to clarify its complaint process for the zoning of religious buildings.   More

Tarek Fatah, former FBI special agent

Infiltration of the federal government by members of the radical Muslim  Brotherhood is worse than some have warned recently, says a former FBI special  agent in Washington.

The agent confirmed that at least three operatives of the Egypt-based  Brotherhood – whose credo is “Jihad is our way and death in the cause of Allah  is our dream” – have penetrated the Obama administration.

The shocking charge was first leveled by Muslim reformer Tarek Fatah during a  recent speech in Toronto.

“When someone says that there is penetration of jihadi Islamists within  society, do not dismiss it as some right-wing, xenophobic, racist rant,” warned  Fatah, a Canadian journalist.

“Today in the White House, there are three members of the Muslim Brotherhood  that influence Obama’s policy,” he told the audience gathered for an IdeaCity  conference. “One is Rashad Hassan, who is the American ambassador to the  52-nation Organization of Islamic (Conference).”

Hisham Elzanaty scamed Allstate?

The Ground Zero Mosque controversy is reigniting as the tenth anniversary of 9/11 approaches, and new accusations against its chief financier adds to concerns about the money for the $100 million project. Those behind the Ground Zero Mosque have a history of shady financial dealings, and have not ruled out taking money from Saudi Arabia and Iran.

Allstate Insurance​ is suing Hisham Elzanaty, the Ground Zero Mosque’s top financial backer, for running a “highly developed and sophisticated kickback scheme.” He is alleged to have fraudulently set up medical facilities, despite not being a licensed professional. He then presented Allstate Insurance with inflated medical bills and engaged in illegal fee-splitting arrangements, it is claimed. He is being sued by Allstate for $5.1 million. State Farm​ and Geico separately sued Elzanaty this year for $1.9 and $1.7 million respectively on similar allegations of fraud.

Elzanaty donated $6,000 to the Holy Land Foundation in 1999, which was shut down by the federal government in 2001 for acting as a front for Hamas. The government’s position was vindicated during the trial, and documents were introduced into evidence proving that the charity was set up by the Muslim Brotherhood​ to finance the terrorist group. Elzanaty says that he did not know of HLF’s terrorism connection when he made the donation, as the charity said it was raising money for orphanages. More in Front Page Magazine
